Tonight we’ll talk about MOODBOARDS!*

What is a moodboard? What should you include? What should it look like? How do you organize it? We’ll cover these and other questions in class as we work towards Project 1.

Above, see examples of a set of moodboards by PSU alum Natsuko Pursell. Natsuko compiled this collection of imagery as she planned a large-scale installation. Note how her collections of images and text immediately set a tone. This is what we want to achieve with our moodboards: a story, a mood, a tone, as told through image, color and style. Though your moodboards need not be this extensive, notice how she collected any and every piece of visual inspiration she could find!

Consider how to organize your moodboards. What are elements of our projects we need to consider? Some potential organizational categories are: color, illustration style, photography style, typography, texture, pattern, layout…

 *Sometimes “moodboard” auto-corrects to “moldboard.” Please note that I do not mean “moldboard.”
